I very much enjoyed the 2 day scratchboard workshop on Saturday and Sunday 3 and 4 November in Bicheno on Tasmania’s stunning East Coast. The workshop was conducted by Carol Gorenko from Melbourne, who is a brilliant scratchboard artist. The event was hosted by the Tasmanian Miniatures Society. I am very pleased to have been approved for membership by the Committee after having produced the requisite 3 miniature pieces.
Even though I have done a lot of scratchboard, admittedly only over the last year or so, I picked up some really good tips and tricks. I now want to explore tattoo needles even more, buy a medical scalpel (No.11) for really fine work and acquire an air brush for beautiful muted backgrounds. It was also good to colour pieces using the Ampersand inks. Enjoyed producing this green eyed cat!
I knocked back the brightness of the cat’s fur in the bottom part of the piece with dilute black Ampersand ink. The Faber Castell black pitt pen also came in handy for correcting small errors.
I also managed to produce a Koala with butterfly, an echidna and a fairy penguin outside of class hours.
