Commissions and Costs

I only use the best quality paints and pastels and artist quality papers and canvases so your portraits should last a lifetime and beyond.

Pastels

This is my preferred medium for pet and people portraits and most animals/wildlife. I use Terry Ludwig, Unison, Art Spectrum and Schmincke pastel crayons, PanPastel pans, along with CarbOthello, Faber-Castell and Derwent pastel pencils.

All prices are based on one pet per portrait on a simple tonal coloured or blurred background (artist quality pastel paper). For additional pets (or people by special request), please add an extra $80.

Framing, postage (including padded post bag) and delivery are additional costs. The pastel portraits are largely done in standard sizes such as A3 or A4 to enable you to buy an existing frame and avoid expensive custom framing costs. However, if you are prepared to pay a framer to frame, then another option is 30 x 40 cm in the high quality Pastelmat or velour. Ideally, pastels should be professionally framed.

A 25% deposit is required at the time of ordering (to primarily cover the cost of materials). Your written confirmation of the order, for example, by email, will be required. Once your deposit is received via direct bank deposit, you will be given an estimated timeframe for the completion of your pet portrait. Upon completion of the work, an image of the work will be emailed or posted to you. Pending your approval and receipt of the remaining 75% payment (and any postage/delivery costs), your unique portrait will be ready for collection or dispatch.

There is a 100% money back guarantee on my work (for up to 21 days after delivery). If you don’t like it, you don’t pay for it! However, the portrait will then remain the property of Animalia Art.

The image of your portrait remains the property of Animalia Art for promotional/marketing purposes.

Pastel portraits will be packaged with glassine paper and cardboard supports either side of the work to ensure their safety and integrity in transit. When unpacking please avoid touching the pastel surface of the portrait. Pastels are very delicate creatures!

The portraits will only be as good as the photos that you provide to me. If you require me to attend your home or property to photograph an animal or pet, there will be an additional charge, commencing at $60.

There may also be additional costs if you require a detailed background. My style is to focus on the animal (or person) and have a minimal background, as is the style with a lot of pastel portraits.

Acrylics

After viewing some of my works, you may prefer to have an acrylic portrait of your pet. Prices are negotiable but are similar to the Pastel prices. Sizes will vary significantly. Portraits will be done on canvas which is ready to hang. Once again, to emphasise your pet or favourite animal, the background will be minimal.

I also like to paint quirky and fun pet portraits. For instance, you may want to include a favourite toy, a bow tie, glasses, top hat etc.

Other – Scratchboard

I also do some pictures with mixed media i.e. scratchboard, acrylics, pastel and ink. Scratchboard is particularly effective with black or black and white dogs such as border collies. The cost of a 11 by 14 inch scratchboard for one animal/pet is $350. Smaller sizes such as 5 by 7 inches are available for $200 and 8 by 10 inches is available for $250. I use professional, museum quality Ampersand Scratchbord for these pieces. In October 2019, I won the equivalent of the Packers’ Prize for my Scratchboard of Missy, the border collie, in the annual Poochibald dog portraiture competition in Hobart.

Snap Button Jewellery

I also have a full range of the innovative and original snap button Acrylic Pour jewellery for sale at reasonable prices. Cost of each unique snap button is $A9.

I also have ready-made glass snap buttons in various themes for $2 to $4 each.

I have pendants, earrings, bracelets, brooches and other items, such as bookmarks and key rings. I also have a range of diffuser pendants and snap buttons. I am selling these at various markets and venues around Hobart. Postage is additional to the listed prices, unless you are in Australia and spend in excess of $100. In that case, your postage (normal) is free. Please ensure that you choose the free postage option at checkout.
