Pet and People Portraits and Original Snap Button Jewellery from Tasmania

Welcome to the website of artist Barbara Etter. I am based in Hobart but can provide my animal and pet and people portrait service and jewellery to almost anywhere in the world.

I love people and animals and painting them! I particularly enjoy personally presenting pet owners with their unique portrait and seeing their reactions. It’s a real challenge making sure a well known and much loved person or pet is instantly recognisable and to capture his or her personality. It is so very rewarding when this is achieved. It’s also great to get feedback when a portrait has been a special surprise gift.

By the way, in case you were wondering, “Animalia” is simply Latin for animals (humans are animals too!). Sounds much more exotic doesn’t it! I just love Australian author Graeme Base’s international best-selling children’s alphabet book Animalia.

And I do love exotic and vibrant colours, as is evidenced by my personal love of birds such as peacocks, ducks, hummingbirds, owls and flamingos. I also love painting my senior citizen Golden Retriever, Bentley (and Roxy who crossed the rainbow bridge in 2019).

I particularly enjoy an element of quirkiness and fun, so feel free to think outside the square when designing and ordering your portrait. I also like the background to reflect the subject’s personality.
